My beautiful and glamorous Aunt Helen died peacefully last evening at age ninety-seven. She had a wonderful life with dynamic Uncle Charlie (unfortunately he left us many years ago and way too soon), her five children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. I always loved her calm elegance and looked to her as a role model. We will miss this woman who was fabulous in every way, and we are thrilled to have had her in our lives for so long.
Here she is at age eighteen – when everyone thought she looked like the movie star, Hedy LaMar. And since she was a part of my life for all of my life, I remember that she looked this way well into her 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.
And a more recent photo. As you can see, she was still beautiful in her old age.
Madeline, What a beautiful lady your Aunt Helen was and this is such a lovely tribute to her.. I loved all my aunts. Each one played a special part in my life and I carry them with me in my heart. Aunt Helen will forever be a part of you. Hugs, Kathy
Thank you, Kathy,
Yes, I loved all my aunts as well and I remember them all dearly. This death is bittersweet since Aunt Helen was with us so much longer than the rest. Like you carry your aunts in your heart, I will never forget her. xoxo
Madeline, your Aunt Helen was a lovely lady, both young and then older. In fact, I may see a slight resemblance there in your face. Treasure your memories of her and never let go — she will be with you always in spirit. Sending hugs, Sherrey
Sherrey, So sweet of you to see a resemblance. Such a great compliment. However, Aunt Helen and I were not blood relatives. She was the wife of my mother’s brother.
But that never mattered. I will always treasure her and always have her with me. xoxo M
