MARLA J. ALBERTIE’S
WOW! WOMEN ON WRITING TOUR OF:
The Ultimate Brag Book About Yourself
Book Summary
Can you imagine all the things you like, love, and adore in one book? All your favorites captured at one time with space to write more. So, why did I write this book? How often do we brag about ourselves, take time to think about what makes us happy, or do the things we like? If I had to guess, not as often as you would like. This book has been on my heart for years and I am finally getting it out to the world.
You deserve to brag about yourself, so why not? Not only is this a bragging book, but it is a book of ideas you can use to start your next project, business, career move, or anything your heart desires. So how does it work? Each topic/list has a “number” to reach because the goal is to get you to stretch your thinking. Need more space? Don’t worry, there are extra lines per number so you can add more and there are extra pages in the back of the book for you to create your own. Ready to start bragging?

Review of The Ultimate Brag Book About Yourself: A hundred questions about how awesome you are
by Madeline Sharples (Choices)
Marla J. Albertie has created a brilliant book even though she actually didn’t write the whole thing. She made up the hundred questions and left lined pages after each so that the reader can fill in the blanks his or herself. And the questions are both serious and silly – they cover the whole gamut of our lives.
I am really fascinated by the range of subject matter she has come up with, and I know it would take me months to come up with answers to each of the hundred. I’ll give you a few for example: My 5 favorite holidays; Happiness defined in 5 words; 10 things that impress me; 10 cars I like; 10 “me time” things I do for self care.
What I’m also going to do is flip through the book and pick three topics to answer myself so you get an idea how difficult an assignment this is. Here goes:
10 accomplishments I am proud of:
- I graduated college
- I worked as a technical writer and editor and proposal manager in the aerospace business for over thirty years
- I was married to my beloved husband for over fifty years
- I am a published poet
- I am a published memoirist
- I am a published historical novelist
- I write a poem and a journal entry every day
- I survived the suicide death of my older son
- I lived in beautiful Manhattan Beach California for over fifty years
- I have a wonderful and caring surviving son
20 books I love that are a must read for anyone:
- Gone with the Wind
- Anna Karenina
- Moby Dick
- The Great Gatsby
- Pride and Prejudice
- Little Women
- The Secret Garden
- Lessons in Chemistry
- Crime and Punishment
- The Lincoln Highway
- War and Peace
- Lolita
- The Brothers Karamazov
- Old Man and the Sea
- For Whom the Bell Tolls
- A Farewell to Arms
- The Sun Also Rises
- The Sound and the Fury
- Shakespeare plays and sonnet
- Whalebone Theatre
10 things that are my guilty pleasures:
- Watching a movie every night
- Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups
- Drinking red zinfandel wine – at least one glass a day
- Taking a nap in the middle of the day
- Spending a lot of time reading news on my phone
- Reading the New Yorker
- Walking along the beach
- Writing obsessively everyday
- Voting at every election
- Visiting my son’s grave on his birthday and death day every year
Marla has asked us to fill in the blanks she left after each of the hundred questions and as you can see that is not any easy task. But it is a worthwhile one. For example, coming up with twenty favorite books took a lot of time and reflection, and I’m sure I missed a lot of important books I’ve read through out my life. I felt the same way about the other two topics I’ve responded to. So I challenge you, my Choices readers, to try it yourselves. You’ll find you’ll have lots and lots to brag about. And thank Marla Albertie for the opportunity.
